Tarantula Info: This larger red-kneed Brachypelma from was long known as B. annitha. It is also known as the Giant Orange-knee or Smith's Red-kneed tarantula. To add to the confusion, the scientific name B. smithi was long applied to the more common and more widespread Mexican Red-knee, which is now distinguished as B. hamorii. Brachypelma smithi is found along the Pacific coast of Mexico south of the Balsas River basin in the state of Guerrero. The natural habitat of the species is hilly deciduous tropical forests where it constructs or extends burrows beneath rocks and among tree roots.
