This undescribed purplish-brown species is known from Machala, a coastal city in southwestern Ecuador. This coastal area is somewhat arid and its habitat could be described as grassland and it is therefore a bit more tolerant of dry conditions than other, mostly tropical, Pamphobeteus. However, some moisture and water should always be available. Mature males are bright purple.
