This giant brown tarantula from northern South America is the largest spider in the world. Although not as “leggy” as Theraphosa apophysis, it is much more heavily built and also rivals the third species of the genus, T. stirmi, in size. This species requires a good deal of moisture, especially when young, but ventilation should never be sacrificed as stagnant conditions kill tarantulas.
