This third species of Theraphosa was more recently described (2010). It is native to Guyana and, along with the other two species in the genus, is the largest spider in the world. The "burgundy" species has proven to be easier to keep and breed than the other two goliaths, but still requires careful attention to sufficient moisture (rehydrate substrate often as needed), and keepers are well-advised to use caution to avoid its potent urticating hairs.
